As a Transformers fan, fanatic, whatever you might call it, the Classics line from back in 2007 was an amazing line, and ran way too short. Then came the Generations line a couple years ago, called by some in the fandom Classics 2.0. And again, the line ran short, but this time a little longer. Now here we are, and between two different lines currently, the Universe and Reveal the Shield sub-lines, we now have Classics 3.0. And again, this line feels like its running short, but not without giving us some long wanted characters in this revitalized sub-line. Recently, we have been getting a lot of the 1986 movie characters, most notably a re-issue of Hot Rod in a two pack with Cyclonus, Kup, Blurr, and even a new Scourge. In the Classics 2.0 line we even got Wheelie. But where was out favorite Junkion motorcycle? Well wait no longer…herrrrrrrrrrrre’s Wreck-Gar!

Let’s first look at the motorcycle mode. From the outset it looks pretty solid, with a good amount of detail, paint job, and a decent size as to fit the character inside, or to even allow other deluxe scaled Transformers to ride him. I personally like the detail added to the bike with the motor grill, the detailed sculpt of the wheel chain, and even a hanging down license plate there. I only have a couple complaints in that I wish there was a little more painted detailed to where the gray sculpted bike chain was; there was a label or painting of some sort of plate there, and not bare space; and that the handles were not made of rubber, but a more solid plastic, but more on the handles during the transformation in a second. I also wished that they had made this bike mode a little smaller, because at it’s current size Joe figures can’t sit too well on it. I understand however why the size discrepancy, so as to allow Wreck-Gar to be in scale with his fellow Autobots. So overall, I like the bike look, but the robot mode is even better.

So how do you get to robot mode? That’s easy with a Transformer, you just transform! With this bike, the top parts of the bike become your legs and feet, the hands are tucked away over the front wheel, and the head is looking straight down at the pavement. Yikes! It really does sound like a Junkion put this guy together. This is how you transformer from bike to robot: First, pull off the exhaust pipe and wheel cover that becomes his weapon – make sure to unhook it though off the small little claw holding onto a bar and not the ball joint. Then, lift up the front and back halves of the bike, pull them out and away, and bend out the feet below, turning the right one around and locking the hips in place. Be careful with that right foot too, as those rubber handles are supposed to give way and bend around the leg as you bring the foot out, but on mine the rubber began cracking already after one transformation. I suggest a preemptive turn of those handles before you bend the foot forward. Above the waist you can turn the chest forward now, bring up Wreck-Gar’s head and lock it into place. Then swing forward the arms and their shoulders, lock them into place and bend out the arms and swivel those wrists. Last step is to arm him with his bladed weapon (which can hook onto the back for storage), and swing the wheel on his left shoulder to a comfy position.

Not too hard, right? Of course to reverse it is pretty easy, just make sure that when going back to bike mode you tuck the hands under the front wheel base a little apart initially, and click them together at the wrists only after you have the legs tucked back into place to form the seat and handlebars section. Otherwise, your seat will be way to pointy and uncomfortable…

Now, let’s look at the robot mode of Wreck-Gar. From mismatched legs, to mismatched arms, and the only symmetrical thing about him is his little mustache and goatee. I really dig the robot mode here, and I think Wreck-Gar here looks remarkable. Close to his onscreen movie look in face only really, everything else is a little different, but alike at the same. The orange, dirty yellow, and gray coloring all work nicely here, and the true ‘junky’ look of the guy stands out. Add to that amazing poseability for a Transformer, even more so than more recent ones, and you have a fine Junkion warrior. I hope we get a couple more figures in this mold, maybe with different heads, sometime as you can actually army build a little with Junkions. Best of all, with ball socket joints on the shoulders at least, you could swap arms between them too and complete that Junkion look.

Bottom Line

So the bottom line is this, any fan of the old G1 line from the 1980′s will love this figure I think. More current and newer fans may not know who Wreck-Gar is, but that shouldn’t dissuade you from picking this guy up either. With this character coming out towards the end of the “Reveal the Shield” sub-line run, chances are he will be hard to find and fast. I actually paid a little more than the normal $9.99 retail price for him at a comic shop for $15.99. A little higher than I might normally pay, but seeing as how I may not see him in a store or online at a reasonable price even now, I snagged him. Shout out goes to Comics and More as well for having this guy, you rock! So is this a figure you should get, definitely. Will you be able too, that’s hard to say. Is he worth more than $10? Definitely. Is he worth more than $20? I don’t think so, but if you really love the G1 Transformers, then maybe he is. Just make sure he picks up after himself if you get him, he tends to leave a mess…
